Researchers, universities, research institutes, and industry partners in Vietnam and Australia are invited to participate in the newly launched Australia – Vietnam Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation Initiative (AVSTICI) Grants 2026, a bilateral funding program designed to strengthen scientific collaboration and innovation between the two countries.
The AVSTICI is a flagship initiative established under the Australia–Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, aiming to foster long-term research cooperation and create impactful solutions to shared regional and global challenges. The program supports joint research projects involving Australian and Vietnamese universities, research organizations, businesses, and industry partners.
Through a competitive funding scheme administered by the Australian Academy of Science on behalf of the Australian Government, successful projects may receive funding ranging from AUD 100,000 to AUD 300,000 for the Australian component of the collaboration. Projects are expected to run for a period of 24 to 36 months. Vietnamese partners will be funded through corresponding mechanisms managed by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of Vietnam.
The 2026 AVSTICI Grants focus on three strategic priority areas:
- New and renewable technologies
- Sustainable blue economy
- Recycling and waste management
Proposed projects should demonstrate strong potential for scientific excellence, innovation, practical impact, and long-term bilateral collaboration.
The AVSTICI program reflects the growing importance of science, technology, and innovation in the Australia–Vietnam relationship. It aims to promote knowledge exchange, strengthen institutional partnerships, and support the development of innovative technologies that contribute to sustainable economic growth and environmental resilience in both countries.
By encouraging collaborative research between academia, industry, and government stakeholders, the initiative is expected to generate lasting scientific networks and enhance the translation of research outcomes into practical applications and commercial opportunities.
Applications are currently open and will close on 20 July 2026. Australian applicants and their Vietnamese counterparts are required to submit coordinated proposals through their respective national funding channels. All applications will be assessed independently according to the eligibility and evaluation requirements of each country.
Researchers interested in developing collaborative projects with Australian partners are encouraged to explore this opportunity and establish new partnerships that contribute to advancing science, technology, and innovation cooperation between Vietnam and Australia.
